Asif Khan’s debut comedy drama explores what it means to be a British Muslim

INTERVIEW: ASIF KHAN. Actor and writer Asif Khan talks to Suman Bhuchar about his debut play, Combustion, currently on a UK tour until 7 July 2017. Khan talks about what prompted him to write a play set his home town of Bradford, exploring what it is like to be a British Muslim. Through his writing he challenges his own community and discovers the excitement and power of telling your own stories. The discussion also touches on one of Khan’s earlier plays, Love, Bombs and Apples, which will be at Edinburgh this year. This interview was recorded on 23 June 2017.

“I started writing this mainly because I thought, I feel, as a kind of British Muslim, my voice wasn’t represented and I wanted to create a play that represents me and a lot of British Muslims.”
