SHAKESPEARE: LEAR

Ursula Mohan tells Sophie Reynolds about the challenges and rewards of playing Shakespeare’s troubled sovereign. Mohan is currently playing Lear in the Union Theatre production of the play, directed by Phil Willmott. Recorded at the Union Theatre, 18 June 2014.

Obviously I can’t play Lear as an old man with white hair because he has a twenty two-something daughter, so she would be my age, she would be early sixties, and she would be much more energetic and a livelier, physically livelier woman, fighting the idea of getting old, but having the knowledge that she isn’t well.
