SHAKESPEARE: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

Award-winning actress Michelle Terry chats to Heather Neill about her two roles — Titania and Hippolyta — in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed in Elizabethan dress by Dominic Dromgoole for Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Recorded at the Globe, 25 June 2013.

What did fairies mean to the Elizabethans? They were creatures used to frighten people, to keep them in order. The things they talk about and the things they do to each other are not pretty. Their language is very earthy.
