SHAKESPEARE: TWELFTH NIGHT

Jonathan Munby talks to Judi Herman about his touring production of Twelfth Night for English Touring Theatre, and which is set between the two world wars. Recorded at Watford Palace Theatre, 29 October 2014.

I’m always interested in historical context that releases the play; that brings the play as immediately to a contemporary audience as possible without losing the play. We’re acknowledging the centenary of the First World War and something about that struck a chord with me in terms of the sense of mourning and grief that begins the play.
