Director Stephen Unwin revisits the South Pole

2nd May 2012

INTERVIEW: STEPHEN UNWIN

The artistic director of the Rose Theatre in Kingston talks to Aleks Sierz about his revival of German playwright Manfred Karge’s The Conquest of the South Pole (Arcola), which he first directed at the Traverse in the 1980s, and about the influence of Bertolt Brecht on the play. Recorded at the Rose, 1 may 2012.

The first time I did it in a classical, purist Brechtian way, but now I’ve loosened it up, and it’s more robust and more anarchic.
