INTERVIEW: NICOLAS KENT and GILLIAN SLOVO

The artistic director of the Tricycle Theatre and writer talk to Dominic Cavendish about The Riots, an attempt to create a rapid-reaction verbatim drama in response to the riots that swept across England in August 2011.

We’re not saying the people burnt out of their houses aren’t as much a victim as someone who feels the need to riot because they’ve had – or they think they’ve had – a deprived upbringing or been unfairly discriminated against. We try to give everyone a voice.
